HomeBotox

The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, also known as Botox, is a popular injectable procedure that temporarily reduces or eliminates fine lines and wrinkles on the face. The most commonly treated areas include: frown lines, forehead creases and around the eyes. Other areas are also treated, such as the so-called “gummy smile”, pronounced masticatory muscles, “smoker’s wrinkles” and the vertical bands of the neck. Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve signals to the muscles being injected and thus the muscle loses its ability to contract.

For medical purposes, Botox is approved to treat excessive sweating, eyelid spasms, migraines, and more.

What result is expected and how long does it last?

The result is a calmer appearance with younger and smoother skin. The effect after injection may start to be visible as early as 24 hours, but the full effect develops within 14 days. Results typically last four to six months, but this may vary depending on age, gender, injection technique, dilution method, and other factors.

How does botox work?

It relaxes the contraction of certain facial muscles, thereby smoothing out wrinkles on the skin.

Is the treatment painful?

The injection of botulinum toxin is performed with small needles and is practically almost painless.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are rare, and Botox injections are generally well-tolerated by patients. Side effects can be divided into transient and potentially serious ones.

Transient reactions are well-localized, reversible, occur within the first few days after injection, and usually resolve on their own.

Aesthetic and functional side effects are related to the response of different muscles to botulinum toxin or its improper placement. Serious side effects are associated with the systemic spread of the toxin, leading to botulism. Allergic reactions are extremely rare.

Depending on the type of treatment, there are concerns that the effects of botulinum toxin injections may extend beyond the injection site, potentially leading to symptoms such as difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking. Additionally, some individuals may develop antibodies to the toxin, making subsequent therapies ineffective. This typically occurs in less than 1% of people receiving repeated botulinum toxin injections.
