Plasma therapy
(Autologous-PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma; “Vampire facelift”)

At the “Your Skin” dermatology clinic, we offer a special medical product created in the Swiss Regenlab laboratory, designed for the preparation of platelet-rich plasma. These are tubes containing sodium citrate anticoagulant and a separating gel to separate the plasma and platelets from the rest of the blood cells.

Platelet-rich plasma stimulates the formation of collagen and elastin, leading to tightening and compacting of thinned skin, smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines, and improvement of overall skin texture and tone.

Plasma therapy is a popular procedure for various medical conditions, such as back and neck pain, sports injuries, osteoarthritis.

In aesthetics, it is used for certain types of hair loss, as well as for the face, where it is also known as “vampire facelift”. The main ingredient used is the patient’s own blood, and the plasma extracted from it is injected into the relevant area. This causes the skin to go into a regenerative phase, thanks to the growth factors in the plasma, which gradually restores volume, improves texture, fine lines and wrinkles. The effect is even more visible a few months after the procedures.

How does plasma therapy work?

A topical anesthetic cream is applied to the skin to be treated 30 minutes before the procedure. For the scalp, prior numbing is not required. Ten milliliters of blood are drawn from a vein into special tubes containing sodium citrate anticoagulant and a separation gel to isolate the plasma and platelets from other blood cells. The tube is placed in a centrifuge with pre-set speed and time parameters for centrifugation. An average of 6 to 8 milliliters of plasma is separated and injected into the dermis using various techniques at an average distance of 1 cm.

In what cases is plasma therapy suitable?
  • Skin laxity;
  • Uneven skin tone;
  • Fine lines and wrinkles;
  • Melasma;
  • Dark circles under the eyes;
  • Androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness) and alopecia areata;
  • After hair transplantation;

In general, PRP is effective for various superficial skin imperfections, acne scars, and sun-damaged skin. Naturally, the more advanced the skin changes and the more lax the skin, the more procedures and potentially more invasive treatments may be required to achieve the desired result.

How many PRP treatments are needed?

It has been proven that 3 or more procedures are effective for most people. The interval between sessions is 30-40 days. To maintain the results, 1 procedure every 4 to 6 months is recommended.

How long does the effect last after plasma therapy?

Whether it is facial or hair procedures, the results last up to about 1-2 years. Of course, many factors play a role, such as the patient’s age, hormonal status, lifestyle, genetic factors, and more.

What is recommended before a PRP procedure?
  1. Drink a sufficient amount of water the day before the procedure and at least 1 liter of water 3 hours before the procedure.
  2. Pay attention to the foods and drinks you consume, as they affect the quality of your blood. It is even recommended to avoid eating for at least 2 hours before the procedure.
    • Low-fat or fat-free foods are recommended at least 12 hours before PRP, such as legumes, leafy greens, cauliflower, broccoli, fruits, mushrooms, and white fish.
  3. Avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., ibuprofen, aspirin) a few days before PRP; anticoagulants (which impair normal platelet function); antibiotics and dietary supplements containing turmeric, garlic, arnica, etc.; and fish oil.
  4. Avoid alcohol consumption, as it also acts as an anticoagulant and may lead to increased bleeding and bruising.
What to avoid after a plasma therapy procedure?
  1. Avoid applying makeup for at least 12 hours after PRP.
  2. It is recommended to avoid coffee consumption, as caffeine interferes with the recovery process in the treated area. It also reduces platelet activity and aggregation, which are necessary for the release of growth factors and the effectiveness of PRP.
  3. Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.
  4. The treated area should not be exposed to heat (saunas, steam baths, heating procedures) or physical activity for 24 hours.
What are the adverse side effects after PRP?

Redness that subsides within a day or two.

Discomfort, sensitivity, or pain in the injection area, which is usually temporary and resolves within a few hours to a few days.

Bruising and swelling – these are common reactions that subside within a few days. Cold compresses can be applied to speed up recovery.

Irritation or itching after PRP injection – subsides within a few hours.

Infection – a rare occurrence. As with any procedure, it is crucial for PRP therapy to be performed in a sterile environment by the physician.

Allergic reaction – extremely rare. It is necessary to discuss any allergies with the treating physician to minimize this risk.

Are there any contraindications to performing PRP?

PRP therapy is not performed in cases of:

  • Inflammatory changes at the injection site
  • Autoimmune and malignant blood disorders
  • Blood clotting disorders
  • Anemia
  • Malignant systemic diseases
  • Acute and chronic infections
  • People taking anticoagulants

Scalp plasma therapy

Plasma therapy (platelet-rich plasma) is a natural procedure in which the patient’s own blood is used for cellular renewal. A number of people prefer plasma therapy for hair restoration, and a significant improvement in the condition has been observed. In a short period of time, it becomes thicker and healthier, hair growth is stimulated and the condition of the scalp is improved. Both in mesotherapy and in plasma therapy, the hair follicle is restored.

In plasma therapy, a number of growth factors are released which are believed to act on the stem cells in the hair follicle, stimulating the development of new follicles, influencing the development of new vessels and stimulating blood circulation, which promotes the growth of new hairs.

Reasons to seek out plasma therapy as a procedure are:

  • any type of hair thinning;
  • all types of hair loss;
  • thinning hair;
  • brittle hair;
  • inflammatory processes of the scalp;
  • dry or oily scalp.

Contraindications for scalp plasma therapy include:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • blood coagulation disorders;
  • intolerance to some drugs;
  • recurrent acute and chronic diseases;
  • psycho-emotional instability and mental disorders.

Scalp plasma therapy proceeds in the same way as when applied to the face or other areas.

It is recommended to do between 4 and 8 procedures at an interval of 1 month to achieve a tangible result. It is possible to alternate with hair mesotherapy for a longer-lasting effect and to stimulate hair growth, and home maintenance with products recommended by your dermatologist is also important.

In case you would like your skin to look younger, radiant, smooth and refreshed, plasma therapy is your procedure for natural results.
